Machining, Planing and Finishing our Log Sidings and Paneling Products

Production Line Operations
The machining phase of our operation is done by a custom one-of-a-kind production line that was designed and installed by us to insure error-free log home building products at the lowest possible cost. This is where all the previous efforts of harvesting, sawing and kiln-drying come together. The wood is shaped to provide the size and profile of the various log siding and paneling products and hand-hewn to add the final "character" to each piece.

Critical to this phase is the ability of the people involved to make our log home products to the exact standards required by both the builder and the construction process, yet maintain a natural log home look at an affordable cost to our customers.

defecting log siding on the production line

After the kiln-dried white cedar cants have been machined into the log siding profile we are running, the next step is defecting. This is done by hand to insure each piece of finished log siding meets our grading standard.

end matching log sidingThe next phase in our cycle is end-matching the wood. The machine puts tongue-and-grooves on the ends of each piece. This gives you, 100% usable material and faster installation. No longer do you have to be concerned with nailing into your studs. Builders have found that end matched log sidings and panelings save them approximately 20% in labor and insures a superior finished product.

Log siding going through the peeling lineLog siding peeling process

If we are running log siding, the end-matched product is passed through our peeling line. We have three large custom peeling machines with multiple settings, so no matter what size of log siding we are running we can achieve the best looking log siding products available in the industry as cost efficiently as possible. This is a benefit to both the end user and Town & Country Cedar Products. It increases our capacity and lowers your cost.Stacking and inspection process of the log sidingLog siding being stacked

The last step in the production process is a final grading, review and stacking. This completes our log home products' transformation from kiln-dried white cedar cants to a finished log siding or paneling product.

We are able run everything you see in our product offerings through the production line due to our computer control box depicted above. We tell the computer what we want to produce and the controller sends a signal to each machine telling it what the settings need to be. The various knives are inserted and off we go. Hand crafting has now been combined to 21st century technology to efficiently produce log home materials. Our production line is available for tours. Contact us for your guided tour.

Silo holding saw dust from the production line

NOTHING IS WASTED
. The sawdust and shavings from our log siding production line is blown into a silo and collected to be used for horse and dog bedding. Horse farms and kennels like our white cedar bi-products as it repells fleas and ticks just like it does termites in our homes. In addition, the production building is heated in the winter from excess steam from our kilns piped underground. Our goal is to keep our manufacturing and your costs to a minimum.

If you visit our production facilities you will be amazed at how our computer controlled production line efficiently operates and produces the highest quality products in the log home industry.
