Residential applications of Cedar Log Cabin Products
" I visited the plant. The product is unique and top of the line. The people were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with." Bob VanDenBerg
This Minnesota log cabin home enthusiast used Town & Country's hand scribed log trusses, flare butt posts, scribed log stairs and 3x6 white cedar siding for a dramatic first impression at the entrance of their log home. The log cabin theme was carried throughout, applying northern Michigan white cedar log siding to the archways accentuated with stone corners. The ceilings utilized sanded tongue and groove northern Michigan white cedar endmatched paneling, as very little drywall was desired in this residence. The VanDenbergs are true wood lovers and wanted the best available white cedar log siding & paneling products for their log cabin home.

DOWNSTATE MICHIGAN DREAM LOG CABIN HOME: This client wanted their Michigan vacation home to be finished as a log cabin home and selected our popular 3x8 hand hewn white cedar log siding for this contemporary design. In addition, 2x6 hand hewn trim and white cedar vertical corners were utilized to provide a finished log cabin effect. Vertical log posts support white cedar decking above a walk out lower level on this log cabin home. For added styling, a Swedish cope finish was cut into the exterior corners. This dream log cabin home will be a spectacular sight in Lower Michigan!

TIMBER STYLE FEATURES: Another Northern Michigan log cabin home under construction is featured below utilizing azed doug fir timbers to form a timber style look to the home. Town & Country craftsmen started with rough kiln-dried doug fir and azed each timber to give the trusses and accents a 1800's cabin look. The timbers form the non-load bearing ceiling trusses and trim in this timber style home. The timber frame has an old world feel with every modern technology. Several of the rooms have white cedar tongue and groove paneling on the ceilings to compliment the timbers.

THIS CUSTOMER WANTED TO DUPLICATE THE LOOK OF THE FAMILY COTTAGE "WITH SOME TWISTS": Looking at the client's family photos they achieved the desired look and feel of their old cottage. Now the "twist" part comes in with the twig branches they have added. The twigs were so important to the design, we invited them to go into a cedar swamp with our logger when the slip was on to pick out their own branches. The slip occurs for three weeks in the spring when the tree's sap starts running, so the swamp adventure was timed to match this event. Everyone had a great time picking just the right branches for a specific part of the house to give the free flowing feel they wanted. This trip into the woods will bring back fond memories for years on how they helped pick their own unigue branches.

WISCONSIN:
CUSTOM LOG CABIN HOME: This custom log cabin home challenged the imagination of our white cedar paneling & siding products craftsmen. They were able to combine the natural characteristics of our tree length white cedar siding, scribed corners and several strip peeled log trusses. When the lake house was being constructed this Wisconsin Builder had a steady stream of boaters stopping by to tour the log home. It started to become a problem, as each visitor had questions that required attention. MIDWEST LAKEFRONT HOME
This lakeside homeowner wanted a completely refinished exterior of his T1-11 vertical pine-paneled home. The 15-yr old paneling was beginning to rot in places with insects and woodpeckers taking advantage of the wood. In the frigid winter months, this home needed an exterior finish product that could withstand years of wet weather; that product was Northern white cedar. Approximately 3200 s.f. of 3x8 hand-hewn white cedar log siding was affixed directly over the T1-11 paneling. 4x6 hand-hewn Northern white cedar trim and 8" saddlenotch corners turned the exterior of this loved lakeside home into a beautiful log home. In addition, a standing seam steel roof, offering 30+ years of maintenance free living, was installed to compliment the log siding. New windows and doors, rebuilt porches with tamarack twig railing and stair systems completed the project. The log siding was prestained using Sikkens (teak color), saving the homeowner from additional on-site labor charges. Project time: 2 weeks.
